We have more lamb than we can shake a tail feather at this time of year. These make a wonderful appetizer, or dinner. Thank you Kroger for once again over ordering fancy meat.
Lamb Meatballs
- 1 lb ground lamb
- 1 tbsp coriander seeds
- 1 tbsp whole cumin
- 3 star anise
- 2 tsp cracked pepper
- 2 pinches sea salt
- 1 egg
- bread crumbs (about a cup)
- 1/3 cup red wine
- 2 tbsp fresh oregano
Crush coriander, cumin and anise in a mortar and pestle. Mix all ingredients together. Add enough bread crumbs to form meat into a rough mass. Pack into gumball sized meatballs and place on a baking sheet lined with foil. Bake at 350 degrees until done, about 35 minutes.
They DO look tasty. What would you serve them with, I wonder?
We’ll post the dipping sauce tonight. We had tabbouleh on the side too.
Just a quick note … what do you do with the star anise? Put them in whole… cause you don’t say in your recipe.
Thanks. You crush those first. Will adjust the recipe.
Reblogged this on Push Dump Fat Button.
I make these all the time. Most of the time I form them on a skewer and put them on the bbq but meatballs are great too. Give me a pita bread, some tzatziki, lettuce onion and tomato along with these meatballs and I’d be in heaven. π
Oh, lala…I would be snacking on these as well. (Shouldn’t it be “shake a tail…” and no feather?? Lol!!
These look good enough to eat… sounds great…
Lovely, and easy to prepare!
Oh dear Rufus, they seem that I can take all of them π Beautiful and I love meat balls… Thank you, with my love, nia
Lamb and meatballs are two of my favorite things together π You know you can always send any extra lamb this way!
Ah, how I miss Kroger. I had access to one growing up and during college. Darn you, Chicago, for only having Dominicks and Jewel-Osco!
Always add lamb to my meatballs and meat sauces, it is the best! These look very tasty.
I dare you to pop all of these in your mouth at once! Actually .. make 2 batches and we can race. We’ll see who can stuff more in there! Mmm. What a great challenge. Now I’m hungry.
I love lamb meatballs with tsatsiki!
What perfect looking little balls of lamb. Did you use an ice cream scoop to make them so perfect? I have no doubt that you would try to put them all in your mouth at once, Greg!
We actually don’t have an ice cream scoop, other than a cheap free one. That was me.
Yum! Is it actually possible to over order lamb? Lamb mince rarely makes it to the dinner table here, as it’s not easy to buy locally. We should make more of an effort! Thanks for the recipe, and the inspiration. π
I need to learn how to grocery shop from you! You have it down.
these do sound good. But what do you do with the star anise? I don’t want 3 star anise pods in my meatballs. π thank you
Thanks. You crush those first. Will adjust the recipe!
thank you!
I love making meatballs, but lamb is a meat I’ve never cooked with much. These sound like such a great idea – if you made these and had a party and invited me over, I bet I would embarrass myself from eating all of them. But at least I’d be happy and embarrassed.
Oooooh, these look beautiful. I do like lamb and I do like meatballs…..Thanks!
My first question was going to be what’s that dipping sauce…but I see it’s on the way! These look really yummy…I love the spices you used.

What flavourful meatballs!

Sigh, all I need is a place to get ground lamb from now π¦
Damn, those perfect meatballs again. I love yogurt and mint, what a great combo.
These sounds great, Greg! Lovin’ the pepper!
Excellent meat balls!
