Because there’s more than one way to make this great gin cocktail.
Greg’s version
- 2 ounces gin
- 1 ounce Cointreau or triple sec
- 1 1/2 ounces lemon juice
Combine ingredients in a shaker filled with ice, shake and strain into a tumbler with ice. Garnish with lime wedge.
Katherine’s version (aka the superior one)
- 1 1/2 ounces gin
- 1 ounce Cointreau or triple sec
- 1 1/2 ounces lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp powdered sugar
- 1 egg white
Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously. (Think of the arm workout you’re getting!) Once foamy, about 30 seconds or so, strain into a martini glass. Take lid off shaker and use a spoon to scoop out the extra foam onto the top of the drink. Garnish with lime wedge.
I love gin cocktails! I’ll bet trying this for sure.
Yum! Both ways!
Mmmm, gin. Distilled juiper bush.
I have to say that Katherine’s does look prettier. If you changed the name though, yours is the version that a guy could drink without shame, Greg. π
Yes, but the white guy doesn’t have the same ring… oh you probably mean something entirely different!
How about “The Pale Gentleman” instead then? π haha!
Pale is the new tan.
Everything I thought of ended up sounding very non-PC. π Is this a version of a Pink Lady … or is there even a drink with that name?
Sold – I’ll have 2! I can’t decide on a version… I’d probably do Katherine’s but use a rosemary-infused simple syrup rather than powdered sugar. Love a drink with egg whites!
I’m leaning towards your version although think I would prefer it in a different glass.
π Mandy
But Mandy, that one actually has Jim Beam written on the back! I bet you like it now!
They both sound so good…I love gin cocktails. Also love that you each have your own version! We have to do that in our house sometimes, too. π
And now what’s a girl to do, but try both, several times, just to make sure which one is superior;)
I’d take either! One is a after work I feel stressed so quick and the other is poshing it up with friends. Wish you guys lived here with all your cocktails. You can come and stay In our apartment free if you make us those ;0) maybe a holiday one day?
I feel like your liquor cabinet is probably something to be worshiped…like a shrine.
I’ll take one of Greg’s . . . no raw egg for me. π
Since I don’t drink, I think I would be the perfect one to judge which one is better. Why? Well because I go by what looks pretty lol. So I will say Katherine’s recipe is superior. Nothing against yours Greg, it looks great, BUT here’s a tip… happy wife means a happy life lol.
I will take Greg’s version please!
I’m laughing so hard at the superior version. I love you folks so much! You must laugh all the time together. What a wonderful life that is.
I wouldn’t know which one to choose. Both look gorgeous, but, Greg, I would certainly choose your glass and the fact that it is more sour π I would love to taste Katherine’s one (I would just skip the sugar) because I’m very curious what a drink with an egg whites tastes like. Many old-fashioned cocktails have egg whites, but I have never tried making them. Excellent ideas!
Lovely – like most others I would need to do a taste test!
I’m not much of a gin drinker but, in the interest of bloggerly love, I’ll tend bar and make as many of ’em as you two would like. Best of all, since I won’t be tasting either one, I won’t be able to cast the deciding vote as to which is better. Some things are beter left as they are.
I don’t like playing favorites, so I’ll keep my opinions to myself. But gin is my go-to so both of these options look fantastic!
I’ll take the man’s drink. π
Oh my. I believe I’ll be trying this tonight. Maybe both versions. π
I honestly don’t know if I’ve ever had a gin drink. How weird is that? Huh. So I can’t say which one I’d prefer, but based on appearances – Katherine’s and based on ingredient list – Greg’s (but the powdered sugar does sound good too). How’s that for sitting on the fence? π
I’d like one of Katherines version please. I need to feel pampered today. Bam
I need both please. Immediately! ALWAYS love your cocktails Greg.
I love gin! I love gin! I love gin! Awesome inspiration mr and mrs, thank you!
I am on a very busy shoot right now and I could use a couple of “ladies” right now. They look so sophisticated and cool.
You two do make amazing looking drinks!
I’ve never been a gin drinker, but I’m liking Katherine’s version…plus it looks so pretty and feminine!!
I don’t want to come between a couple but I’ll have one of each please π
Oh… I have to say I like Katherine’s version….maybe because it’s served in a pretty martini glass – but I also love the look of the foam… sorry, I’m a sucker for visuals π
I’m closing voting now and I’m going to declare myself a winner at 6-5 among the people who took sides. OK, actually 6-4 I’m throwing out one of the two votes from Florida, sorry Nancy, because you guys do get disenfranchised from time to time. I obviously am going to keep Linda’s vote! Also, if I counted wrong, well oh well, it’s wife’s privilege.
Darn, I missed the vote and I sure am thirsty. Obviously I would have to drink both to really know.
I’m going with Katherine’s version.
Very nice ladies drink
I tend to like a less sweet cocktail so I would lean to Greg’s on taste but Katherine’s is so pretty.
I think I’ll have to go with Greg on this one – for taste. But Katherine, yours is definitely more eye-catching!
I’m sold on anything in a gorgeous martini glass! Cheers, hope you have a great weekend. It’s snowing like mad (those damn weather people said it would start on Sunday, liars).
This looks so good. I am on a red wine kick right now since it is supposed to be so good for you.
Dear lord, I am going to drink this tonight, no matter what. It looks divine.
I’m gonna make my Matt make this for Valentine’s Day–the superior one π
Cheers, Greg’s version for us – something about a raw egg white that makes me think of gym junkie’s protein shakes.
I’m with Catherine – I love creamy, frothy drinks.
