The cabinets have finally been installed so all we have to do is wait on the counters. Then I can install the sink and the oven vent. It took two days to get all of the kitchen stuff out of the rest of the house and organized. Anyway here are a few teaser shots of the cabinets.
Above is part of the pantry wall which is an awesome addition for us. We had a good amount of storage space in the old kitchen but it could not store all the dried, preserved and canned food we make and buy over the year. Now it is all in one place with room for more, which just encourages me to can more garden stuff and make more types of jam and pickles this year.
Above is the style of handle we liked. The cabinets are very simple and classic in design, something we felt would not look dated in 10 years but we did go with a slightly more modern handle. In the background is one of the self closing hinges, which are great. We went with Kraftmaid for the cabinet maker and I have to say they have an exceptional product.
We also went with a built in for the microwave, but far away from the stove, which is what killed the last one. Katherine hates cluttered counters and this is a way to free up a good amount of space.
To see some kitchens where cooking is a bit easier pop over to Fig Jam and Lime Cordial and check out her In My Kitchen series for February.
It all looks fantastic!! I love big, deep, sturdy drawers, and the workmanship on your cabinets looks most fine. Please let me know if you would like to add this to our In My Kitchen get-together – everyone loves a new kitchen! π
That sounds great. We’re getting close to finishing if you want to wait for the finale. Up to you!
Have sent you an email! π
Gorgeous – you can never move house now you know?!
Looking great! It does get old, doing the dishes in the bathroom, doesn’t it?
Beautiful Greg! I love our pantry too, such a practical use if space, which reminds me that I need to get another shelf for ours! The soft close hinges are amazing too! Always reminds me of that Ikea commercial of the couple arguing in the kitchen trying to slam cupboards for effect but can’t!
making good progress…I had a big pantry with pull out draws once, and really enjoyed it…we are thinking of remodeling our kitchen too…and the job keeps getting bigger and bigger…lol…tip I learned about kitchen redo’s…take take the old sink and put it in a quick frame in the backyard and then you can wash dishes outside…makes it a lot easier.
We were planning on using it as a temporary sink, but it was already pretty beaten up and got destroyed when I pulled it out.
It’s coming along well ‘Rufus’ – what a lot of work you’ve been doing but it’s going to be terrific. As far as Messy Counters go…. I’m the Queen of Messy Counters. I never used to be… but I sure am now.. ; o)
What fun! Nothing so great for us food bloggers than a new or updated kitchen. We did ours a few years ago and I have enjoyed every minute I have spent in it since. Can’t wait to see it all finished! Good job.
I’ve been following your progress, Greg, and you’ve plenty to be proud of. Your kitchen is going to be fantastic, made even better because you did the work yourselves. Good for you!
I hate cluttered counters too and I HATE cluttered over filled cupboards and drawers. Your new ones will put paid to all those problems, Say Hi to Katherine for me!.. tell her the roosters lost their combs in this terrible weather but are still as noisy as ever! c

I love those pull out shelves!
Love those kitchen handles . . . we installed the same ones! π
Looks like things are coming together in a good way.
G’day! Looks GREAT Rufus and congrats on your 1st IMK post, true!
I hope you pantry stays as organized as it appears now too! π
Thanks for this month’s kitchen view!
Cheers! Joanne
So fun to see you here on IMK! One of the best innovations in kitchen cabinets was the invention of pull-out shelves (by the way, I don’t have any — still reaching into the murky depths, lol) and your cupboard space looks efficient, sleek, and welcoming. Good planning, good food to come!
