What we ate in Oregon

Broth so good you could drink it

We spent Memorial Day week in and around the Portland area, visiting the City of Roses along with Willamette Valley and the Oregon Coast. We ate as much seafood and drank as much wine as possible. Most of our food pictures were shot on Katherine’s smart phone. We didn’t shoot everything we ate. (No one’s done that since the 1800s!) But here are some of the highlights. Above steamer clams with fennel and chorizo from Deschutes Brewery in Portland. Below the brewery’s burger with roasted red bell pepper and pastrami with potato and garlic soup.

There can never be too much roughage on a burger

The breakfast at The Wildflower Cafe in Lincoln City, a coastal town was by far our favorite breakfast. We had eggs Benedict with crab and eggs Benedict with crab cake. (Like I said seafood kick!)

You don't have to go to Holland for good hollandaise

Crabs on top, crabs on the bottom, crabs, crabs, crabs

Crabs on top, crabs on the bottom, crabs, crabs, crabs

The Blackfish Cafe, also in Lincoln City, was another favorite. Their swordfish was almost too pretty to eat. Almost.

Although the chef needs to practice the difference between polenta and grits

And how’s this for a starter? The “frutos del mar” at Andina cafe had assorted ceviches, oysters, mussels and more.

This is for two people, but I could’ve eaten it all by myself

And for a main course, fish, bok choy and shitake mushrooms in a pork broth.

Bok choy rules

We were always too full to order dessert. But we did nab some chocolates from Tamami Chocolates in McMinnville.

0016

If only the papers were edible chocolate as well

We also had excellent dinners at Subterra and Kyllo’s.

About Rufus' Food and Spirits Guide

This blog attempts to collect some of the things I try to create with food and booze. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail. My hope is to entertain and maybe help people think a little harder about what they decide to eat and drink.
