We spent Memorial Day week in and around the Portland area, visiting the City of Roses along with Willamette Valley and the Oregon Coast. We ate as much seafood and drank as much wine as possible. Most of our food pictures were shot on Katherine’s smart phone. We didn’t shoot everything we ate. (No one’s done that since the 1800s!) But here are some of the highlights. Above steamer clams with fennel and chorizo from Deschutes Brewery in Portland. Below the brewery’s burger with roasted red bell pepper and pastrami with potato and garlic soup.
The breakfast at The Wildflower Cafe in Lincoln City, a coastal town was by far our favorite breakfast. We had eggs Benedict with crab and eggs Benedict with crab cake. (Like I said seafood kick!)
The Blackfish Cafe, also in Lincoln City, was another favorite. Their swordfish was almost too pretty to eat. Almost.
And how’s this for a starter? The “frutos del mar” at Andina cafe had assorted ceviches, oysters, mussels and more.
And for a main course, fish, bok choy and shitake mushrooms in a pork broth.
We were always too full to order dessert. But we did nab some chocolates from Tamami Chocolates in McMinnville.
Next time you come to Oregon, please visit us in Rockaway beach for oysters, crab and razor clams. We love visitors. Sounds like you were we’ll taken care of though.
Thanks, Chris. Will do. We loved the oysters.
Ooh, you came to our fair city! Next time, try Grain & Gristle, Tasty N’ Sons, Oven & Shaker, Little Bird, Boxer Sushi… I could go on and on and on and on.
Thanks!
Great view of good American food. Sounds like an excellent trip. The eggs and crab cakes look fab:)
That clam soup looks amazing!
All looks amazing but that breakfast – wow!
Those clams look so good !
Great food trip!
By the looks of it, you had an amazingly good time. Other than eating, what else is there to do in Oregon?
Lots of hiking and parks. Lots of good wineries. The Rose and Japanese gardens were great.
So glad you got to hit the Rose Garden. It’s so beautiful this time of year!
Ah yes, now that you mention it, I did know about the wineries; our neighbour in our second house was from Oregon and he collected wine – it took his movers 6 hours to reconstruct his wine cellar of over 1,000 bottles.
Wow – you’re killing me with all that yummy seafood!
Yum . . . chocolates looks FAB! Also like the look of that garlic and potato soup.
What a fun trip – Portland is beautiful!!!
Been to Portland twice, loved it! Running on some of those hills is AMAZING! I miss my days of long distance running… 😦 But the food is great too, as you proved with your post…
Great food, you made me hungry to look at it. sigh… Now I’m in the mood for crab.
Oh my gosh I am SO envious!!!! All that food looks delicious! *sigh*
It sounds like a great trip. Kathryn’s smart phone takes terrific photos.
Wonderful food!
You have made me very hungry.
I always wish there was a blog with all of my favorite bloggers trips linked together! Then I’d know where to visit when traveling! You took excellent photos btw!!
You didn’t shoot everything you ate? How long were you there? I’m dying looking at all this great food and seafood. What a trip!
We were there a week. Sometimes you just want to eat!
Oh yes indeed. Eating is more important than shooting for sure. You showed us so much here though, I thought you must have been there longer than a weekend if you didn’t shoot everything. It looks like it was eating heaven! 🙂
Everything looks great Greg. And I have to add that that phone has a hell of a camera! The photographs are stunning. 🙂
