And we didn’t even have guests
We have quite a few new recipes on tap for the next two weeks. We’ll brine a turkey, serve up a new sweet potato soup, dress up green beans and kick our cranberries up a notch. We have some new drinks and desserts in store too. While the core ingredients never change, Thanksgiving still offers endless possibilities and for that we’re quite thankful. Here are our all-time favorite Thanksgiving recipes, the ones we return to each year.
Turkey with Herb Butter and Cornbread Stuffing
Mmm, butter
Spiced Sweet Potatoes
Two Southern staples
Mashed Potatoes with Truffle Oil and Porcini
This is important, this means something
No Lumps Gravy
I have been tempted to drink it straight from the dish
Brandied Cranberry Sauce
Where are the can indentations?
Green Beans with Pancetta and Mushrooms
It’s so colorful and vibrant.
Brandy Milk Punch
Wait until the end of the week and buy your thanksgiving napkins for next year for pennies on the dollar
Sweet Potato Pie
This is a crime against nature without whipped cream
About Rufus' Food and Spirits Guide
This blog attempts to collect some of the things I try to create with food and booze. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail. My hope is to entertain and maybe help people think a little harder about what they decide to eat and drink.
That turkey photo is pure food porn! (do I get some type of prize for mixing pure and porn on the same sentence? 😉 )
Gorgeous turkey in that top shot … how do you get it such a deep red colour? The truffle and porcini mashed potatoes are mouthwatering as well.
It’s the herb butter and roasting it at a high temp first: https://rufusguide.wordpress.com/2011/11/09/turkey-with-herb-butter/
Garden’s all put to bed, the days are short and cold…
Bring On The Holiday Cooking! 😀
Ooooh, brandied cranberries! I’ve just about given up on cranberries, but may be tempted to try once again!
Your table looks very much like ours. I love Thanksgiving! It’s my favorite holiday with 4th of July as a close second. I think it must be the food.
It’s funny; my sisters have requested very few side dishes and mostly desserts!
That seems reasonable.
I’m starting to plan the menu. We are doing our turkey on the grill this year. And I’m thinking a new dressing recipe is in order. And a new pecan pie recipe…The rest I think I’ll leave alone as close to perfect already….lol…
Looks awesome. What time should I come over? 😀
You’re welcome any time Tommy!
Tried and true recipes are always perfect for the holidays but I’ll be interested to see how you kick it up a notch. 🙂
Now I am hungry. Is it Thanksgiving yet?
You’re making me want turkey all over again! Sadly I have to wait for Christmas and even then it’s not guaranteed, the last few years my brother has made a ham. Loving all the fixings you’ve prepared, such a colourful and beautiful table.
I see you posted a link for that fabulous looking turkey – thanks! And – have you EVER been busy! Each and every dish/drink etc. looks amazing!! I won’t be home for Thanksgiving but anytime’s a good time for turkey – so I’ll be making some of these recipes soon.
I’m going to post the link to this page – as well as a photo of THAT TURKEY – on Facebook. (And, of course, I’m ‘pinning’ it!!)
Thank you!
