Grapefruit and Rosewater Margaritas for Ladies Night

Either the fence is leaning or I have had too many of these

Either the fence is leaning or I have had too many of these

Donna over at The Slow Roasted Italian informed us last week that Feb. 22 is National Margarita Day. This posed a dilemma for us, albeit a happy one.

We love us some margaritas and thought we might just have exhausted our repertoire. So it was time to get back into the kitchen and come up with a new twist on an old favorite. (Thanks to Lauren over at Gourmet Veggie Mama for teasing us with a Grapefruit Mexican Martini and to Kroger for putting Texas ruby reds on sale.)

Remember to use the ruby red variety to get a sweet and pretty drink.

Speaking of Donna, this is the second week we’re teaming up with her and Chad to host the Ladies Night Cocktail linkup party. Please share your favorite bites and drinks. The rules are below.

First we want to pick our absolute favorites from last week’s link party. Picking just one seemed so wrong so we’re declaring a tie between A Poet in the Kitchen’s coffee and cream martini and Egg Me On’s squash crostini.

Grapefruit Rosewater Margaritas

  • 2 ounces reposada tequila
  • 1 ounce triple sec
  • 2 ounces freshly squeezed red grapefruit juice
  • 1 ounce Rosewater simple syrup
  • juice from half a lime

To make the rosewater simple syrup, combine one cup sugar and one cup water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until sugar is combined. Remove from heat and let cool about five minutes. Stir in 1 tsp rosewater. Allow to cool. In a margarita glass (or a Hurricane one if you’re rebels like us) stir remaining ingredients and simple syrup over ice. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Here are the Link Party rules:
1.  Link up to 3 appetizers and/or cocktails
2.  Link back to the Ladies Night Cocktail Party or Grab a Button (code below)
3. Link directly to the post
4.  Party will go on through Sunday evening (submissions end Sunday at 11:59pm Arizona time)

About Rufus' Food and Spirits Guide

This blog attempts to collect some of the things I try to create with food and booze. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail. My hope is to entertain and maybe help people think a little harder about what they decide to eat and drink.
