This is not, I repeat NOT, just a slightly different version of a martini with a different garnish. OK, maybe it kind of sort of is, but it’s delicious.
Onion Gibson
- 2 1/2 parts vodka
- 3/4 part dry vermouth
- cocktail onion
Pour liquors into a shaker filled with ice and give it a good shake. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with a cocktail onion or one of those fancy ones from the olive bar, or maybe two. Drink the drink. Eat the onion.
True Story: This drink is named for Antonio Sebastini Julio Gibson III who discovered the 137th element on the periodic table called Gibsoniadium.
Another True Story: We were both liberal arts majors.
Your posts leave me giggling out loud. And anything with an onion would be delicious ! Cheers to Mr Gibson !
I’ve fallen off too many bar stools to start drinking Martinis again – although I did love them:)
I’m not a huge fan of that much vermouth but I’d give it a try just to be polite. Years and years ago I had a bad experience with gin Martinis and onions, so its put me off (I think perhaps one if the onions had gone bad in the massive three Martinis I had that night, because I was wrecked the next day ;)! )
It’s always the onions!
Onions? Onions? Gah! =D
We forgot the garnish… mustard!
Nothing like a little chemistry to get my day going… π
Fabulous – I could do with one right now!
Love it! I bet it would be delish with gin as well!
I could probably survive one and still stand π
Love a good gibson – also love a gimlet (with a lemon garnish) as well . . . .
I have to confess that I prefer a martini, but this is a classic π
This is one I must try! Hope you both are doing well!
I know it only mid-day on a Thursday, but I would be much happier (stressful kind of day hurrying around to get lots done) if I had your onion gimlet for lunch…after all it has a vegetable in it…right?
Very refreshing.
We put two in!
Hope you realize that you are one of the caterers at my blog celebration party on Saturday. π
One of my best friend’s surname is Gibson, and you can bet I’m going to tell her about this cocktail! And I’m going to tell her the history too! π
I love this photo! So still and pretty.
Cheers to Liberal Arts majors. π
Now this is something different!
So tasty looking! Thanks for posting.
Love martinis – but the onions I”m not sure of. I do however think that photo is fantastic!
Excellent photo and cocktail! What i don’t drink with gin I more than make up with vodka.
