An Ode to the Burger

With Memorial Day fast approaching we posit the question: Is there anything more American than the burger?

Actually, I’m Australian.

I’m All-American though

We really don’t want an answer, mind you. We used posit in that first sentence, so we automatically win. But you can have the consolation prize: Some burger ideas for Monday.

Bison Burgers on Texas Toast

Holy bison batman these are tasty

Portabello Burgers

oh cheesy

Burgers with sun-dried tomato paste, goat cheese and herbs

It needs some fries

Venison Burgers with Roasted Red Bell Pepper

Yes that is an extra large kosher dill there

About Rufus' Food and Spirits Guide

This blog attempts to collect some of the things I try to create with food and booze. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail. My hope is to entertain and maybe help people think a little harder about what they decide to eat and drink.

I love odes. Especially when a burger is involved.

  3. I can smell the grill from here.

  4. What? No Aussie burger?

Aussie Burger (called ” a burger with the lot”)
    Beef patty
    Cheese
    Fried Onions
    Tomato
    Lettuce
    Slices of beet
    Slice of pineapple
Big piece of bacon (not American style unfortunately)
    Fried egg
    Mustard
    Ketchup (called tomahto soss here)

You need an industrial press to be able to get it in your mouth. I know other Aussies will disagree with me but they are pretty fat.

They’re also delicious. It took me a while to fathom the egg though.

  6. We hardly ever eat burgers – think I should go defrost from mince and make a few patties for on the braai.

Ah beef! Its what’s for breakfast — I couldn’t stomach eggs in the morning when I was in school, so my mom sent me off into the Pennsylvania winters with a nice warm burger in my belly! Mmmm… why not? Still love ’em!

  14. Eva Taylor says:

There is really nothing like a good burger, great beef taste, properly seasoned a little smoke and char from the grill, and the condiments. Thanks for the refresher, Greg, happy memorial day!
It’s very warm in New York City; perfect for a long weekend. Sorry if my comments are delayed!
