Don Draper can keep his martinis or Old Fashioneds. I’ll have what Betty’s having…
The Gimlet
- 2 ounces simple syrup
- Juice from one lime
- 2 ounces gin
To make simple syrup, combine equal parts sugar and water. Cook over a medium heat, stirring occasionally until dissolved. A quarter cup of each will give you enough for a few drinks. Once cool measure out two ounces and stir in lime juice. Either pour over ice in a tumbler and stir in gin or shake with gin and ice in a shaker and strain into a martini glass.
A few notes: Yes, you can use the premade lime cordial stuff. But where’s the fun in that? I like them sweet, most recipes call for more gin than lime. If you prefer, add lime simple syrup to taste.
And most important: No Mad Men spoilers. We don’t get the fancy cable and I’ll have to wait for a while to watch season five.
Classy cocktail shaker! I love the sound they make with the ice clinking about.
Mmm… I do love me a good gimlet. Vodka in mine, though!
My bartender buddy makes a dill cucumber gimlet that is amazing! I think it’s with vodka so all the better for me.
Love it. This drink always reminds me of the drunk Karen Walker from “Will & Grace”.
Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world… I never met a gimlet I didn’t like!
Moreish.
🙂 Mandy
Didn´t realise it was so easy to make. Am having a girly weekend with my best pal, I think we´ll have to make these!
Gin + lime = happiness 😉
One of my favourite summer cocktails. Everything is available in the house to enjoy except for the summer, which is still AWOL:)
I’ve always wondered where the gimlet was. Didn’t find it in the ingredients. Go ahead laugh. Truly I don’t know.
Raymond Chandler would approve 😉
A perfectly simple drink.. and you have reminded me to make some of the syrup and have it in the fridge.. um .. just in case!! c
Was gonna bring up Raymond Chandler, but Mad Dog beat me to it. Great shaker!
Nothing like a good gimlet – looks delicious!
This sounds delicious! I love the simple cocktails. We just bought our first bottle of gin, perhaps we will give this a try this weekend.
What a lovely summertime cocktail, and the presentation in the martini glass is classy. Cheers to another Thursday under our belts!
This is just what I need right now! I’m a vodka girl though, does that still count!!
What a simple but inviting drink. I’ll have a couple of rounds, please. 🙂
mmm, is it bad that is sounds good right now – at noon?
Never seen Mad Men but the Gimlet sounds great. I really like gin but have never had one, shocking 🙂
Two OZ of gin would be perfect to be within the healthy factor.
I agree with you Katherine. While the old fashions and martinis always look good (and taste good) in theory, they never live up to the hype for me. But some gin! Now we’re talking. I know some would say that’s not manly or whatever. But screw those people. I’m having a drink.
Sounds great and has kind of a funny name… Gimlet…
I’ll take one of those please!
Looks good to me. I’m all about the lime…
Looks good- except, I do vodka!
