Great cakes

Chocolate cake for breakfast

This flourless chocolate cake has been a favorite of ours for ages. The recipe was printed in Bon Appetit in April 2001. (We always use dark chocolate not semi-sweet, but don’t otherwise alter the recipe so we’ll just provide the link.)

We made this recently to take to a party and the host didn’t put out a serving utensil. (That’s in no way a complaint; the party was great. We also drank wine from the bottle, kidding!) People used the plastic forks to devour it piece by piece. Don’t worry no one double forked.

With two people in the house, we don’t often make a cake. But here are some great ones that are definitely high on our list.

Rebar Chocolate Cake from Korena in the Kitchen

Orange Almond Cake from Cooking-Spree

Chocolate Chip Passionfruit Layer Cake over at Joshua Fagans

Chocolate Turtle Ganache Cake from Savoring Every Bite

German Chocolate Cake from Sweet Pea’s Kitchen

Ginger Stout Cake with Sweetened Yogurt from A Poet in the Kitchen

Seville Marmalade Cake from Frugal Feeding

Butter Cake with Blood Orange Curd from Savory Salty Sweet

The Orange Devil Cake from Jereme’s Kitchen

Lindsey’s Lick the Plate Butter Cake over at Sweet & Crumby

About Rufus' Food and Spirits Guide

This blog attempts to collect some of the things I try to create with food and booze. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail. My hope is to entertain and maybe help people think a little harder about what they decide to eat and drink.

That looks a-MAY-zing. Pure decadent chocolatey goodness. I’d eat it with a plastic fork, too… probably more than one piece of it!

  2. Sara says:

Thanks for the shout-out. I sure wish I had more excuses to make cake, but it’s too dangerous to have around, especially any of these that you listed! I’d happily send you two some but I don’t think it would survive the journey.

  3. Yum! Thank you so much, I can’t wait to try some of these.

  4. nrhatch says:

I’m surprised they used plastic forks . . . and didn’t just grab fistfuls to shove into their mouths! Yummy!
