Everyone should have a side of smoked meat in their refrigerators at all times. For those of you new to smoking go here. For this recipe do not glaze the meat with barbecue sauce during the last 30 minutes of smoking. Shred the pork while it is hot for an easier and more even result.
Pulled pork with Tomatillo sauce
- 1 lb smoked pulled pork
- 2 cans tomatillos
- 1 red onion diced fine
- 4 cloves garlic
- 3 jalapenos diced fine
- 2 tbsp fresh cilantro
- 1 cup chicken stock
- 1 lime
- Salt/pepper
Fry onion in a large saute pan till softened. Add jalapeno and garlic and cook until fragrant, about two minutes. Discard juice from canned tomatillos and add to pan. Stir well crushing the tomatillos with the back of a spoon as they soften. Stir in pork. Add chicken stock, cilantro and lime juice. Season with salt and pepper and cook until thickened. Serve on corn tortillas with sour cream.
What’s that? No smoked pork in your fridge? Well Sweet Caroline’s Cooking had this great recipe for chicken in verde sauce.
Ooh..yum!! I wish we could have that for dinner tonight, I’m sitting here trying to decide what to cook!
Wow that looks good.
I couldn’t agree with you more.. smoked meat is a necessity in your fridge. And boy does this smoked pork look good. Yes, I think it’s calling me
My (Estela’s) chicken? But your pork recipe sounds/looks absolutely incredible!! mmmmm. But thank you so much for the shout out!
Looks so good I wish I had the ingredients in my fridge right now.
That must be hot smoked(cooked) ?
We always cook it before we throw it in.You can shred it and cook it the next day. It’s not super spicy.
Where’s the Verde sauce recipe? I really like salsa verde, although the tomatillo looks pretty sexy too.
We use the terms interchangeably, but perhaps that’s an American slang (read incorrect) thing.
Just by reading that smoked pulled pork alone is enough to make my tummy grumble
Hmm, looks delicious – although I am a bit of a ninny and will have to reduce the amount of jalapenos.
🙂 Mandy
I will rectify my ‘problem’ with my next shopping!
I’ve resisted the urge to get a smoker but, I must admit, it gets mighty hard when I see you post recipes like this one. It really sounds delicious, Greg!
You have got to do a book!
This looks delicious!
In the words of Meg Ryan – Yes! Yes! Yes!
Is it bad that I’ve never tried verde sauce? I have this assumption that it’s hot and too spicy for my taste…
I love tomatillos! What a great recipe.
Some people rob banks – I’d rob your house of that taco and then I’d plead temporary insanity because it looks INSANELY good!
LOVE LOVE the verde sauce idea. Simply delicious looking and I can only imagine how incredible it taste
Tacos are so popular and I really like green sauce with them.
Looks so delicious…Should be added to my list! Thank you dear Rufus, with my love, nia
Looks fantastic and makes me really, really, really want to invest in a smoker this year!
I agree about the reserve of smoked meat in the freezer, it’s a must have! 🙂 This looks so tasty!
Wow, does that look good, might have to cut back on the jalapenos though…my whole family has acid reflux and those are awful for that! But Ima have to try this recipe! Thnx!
This sounds delicious. Wish I had some pulled pork…
I don’t have any smoked or pulled pork in my fridge right now, but your tacos make me want to remedy that this weekend!
What a delicious sounding recipe Greg. So I have no idea about such things, but how well would dark chicken meat do in a smoker, and in exchange for the pork?
Whole chickens and turkey breasts do really well in the smoker. Are you thinking about just smoking dark meat? The birds aren’t that big. In any case, chicken would do well in this recipe.
Smoked pulled pork is certainly a favourite; I really must try to make it myself once. I love a good verde sauce.
Mmm yes, please!!
I wish there was room for a smoker in my apartment…
Another fabulous recipe fro me to pop back for, once i get my pork! First the pig sty then the pork!! c
What a tasty weeknight meal this would make. I mean doesn’t everyone have some smoked meat just sittin’ around waiting to be invited to the party?
Well, more people may have chocolate drawers…
Oh my, I don’t have a side of smoked pork in my fridge at all times!! Guess I better do something about that because this looks really, really good!!
But your biscotti jar is never empty!
I love verde sauce. It’s so colourful and fresh tasting. And your smoked pulled pork taco looks very delicious.
I know I always sound redundant in the comments I leave here, but this looks fabulous. I must try it! We get lots of tomatillos in our summer CSA delivery, so will definitely come back to this then.
My girl’s father was the king of “smoking” food. He smoked everything. This sounds wonderful and I love pork.
I sometimes think pork is made for smoking. I have just bought a kg of smoked pork loin I use sometimes instead of bacon (I mean when I have had too much fat bacon 😉 )
This dish looks fantastic!
Gotta love a good pig!!
This loooks so good.
I alwayss have Polish smoked sausages (kielbasa) in the freezer, but smoked pulled pork? WOW that’s just off the charts! YUUUUUUUUUUUUM!
I was totally put off by canned tomatillos the last time I used them (so weird and gross looking!) but this sounds so great that I might consider giving them another chance 😉
You can definitely adjust it to use fresh.
I wouldn’t have thought to serve this on tortillas. That sounds really good. I know Mike would especially love this…maybe enough to get the grill back out. 😉
Go to Facebook and look at our dramatic shot of our snow covered grill. Perhaps it will inspire him.
Want me some, the dish looks out of this world!
