The French Martini

Someone had a few from the looks of the angle of the photo

This drink led to a revelation, we’re horrible at making orange twists. How hard can it be to achieve a perfect curl wrapping a twist of peel around a swizzle stick, we thought. Apparently, we need more practice. As soon as the thing got wet, which happened anytime it got near the drink, the counter, the sink, Greg’s hand, it just lost its curl.

Anyway, we’re calling this the French Martini, because it reminded us of one with the same name at a bar in New Orleans and it’s filled with French booze. But if any of the fine folks over at It’s Just the Booze Dancing are reading, feel free to call it the Razzletwatatini. This one’s for you.

The French Martini

Combine ingredients in a shaker filled with ice and strain into martini glass. Garnish with an orange twist. Give to your husband only if no one’s looking.

    I wouldn’t give the twisted peel a second thought. More often than not, that exquisitely spiraled peel garnishes a perfectly rotten tasting cocktail — not that I have much experience drinking, btw. This cocktail sounds as delicious as any martini I’ve enjoyed. I want one!

      Well, I must’ve remembered it wrong anyway because it’s really supposed to be pineapple juice, but 1) I was in NOLA so I’m not really going to pretend my memory is clear 2) Americans never get anything French right anyway! Except French fries. We do those well, ha.

  14. My guy wouldn’t bat an eyelash (even coquettishly) at a tasty drink like this. Quite a moniker you tagged it with (the secondary one) 😉 !! I guess I’d stick with French Martini in mixed company. On the other hand, it sounds so tasty that I’m sure any company at all would soon be so pleased with the world that I could call it, them or anything whatever I jolly well pleased. And we would all recline and enjoy the same slant as the photo’s.

    Great colour in that drink! Did you guys ever try Cointreau? It’s a bit like Grand Marnier – I have problems deciding which one I like most, but I do think Cointreau has an edge. You should check it out if you can 🙂

      We love Cointreau, but never have it for one reason, Grand Marnier goes on sale each Thanksgiving at our local liquor shop. We’re pretty judicious with it, a bottle lasts us about two years!

    As far as i know, the french martini was a cocktail invented by the Chambord company in the 90s to promote their product and it contained pineapple juice.

    Drink looks good still though! I particularly like the photograph

    That’s one fine martini!! I do have some experience in curling orange peel – and its never been successful! A little on the tipsy side (and that goes for the photo and the drink!) but nonetheless, Grand Marnier and Chambord makes a flavorful mix.
