This tastes great with or without the alcohol, so you nondrinkers shouldn’t feel left out. Those making the nonalcoholic version may want to add a pinch of sugar.
Watermelon coolers
- 7 cups watermelon, cubed
- 1 cup rum
- 1/4 cup Triple Sec
- juice from 2 limes
- 12 ounces soda water
In a blender, puree watermelon, in batches if need be. Pour through a strainer to remove chunks. Add watermelon juice and remaining ingredients to pitcher. Serve over ice.
yummy! Thats all I can say. May have to try this during the up coming weekend.
Let us know if you do, please.
This sounds so refreshing. I’ll take the alcohol, please.
Coming right up!
It’s a manly pink, really…besides, I’m sure if you have one or two or five, you won’t care about the color one bit. It does sound quite refreshing.
Ha, thanks. Manly pink it is.
This looks wonderful. I love watermelon. 🙂
We’ll have to buy more next year. But one for two people is really a lot!
Yum!! I love watermelon so these sound like a great summer treat! I bet honeydew would make a sweet drink too. You should put your photos in photo challenges. They are always stunning!
(PS: Thanks for the 7 links challenge. I am trying to organize now) : )
Thanks and you’re quite welcome.
That looks great and very refreshing!
Thanks!
Mmmm. I need to make this right now :). Love the tartness of the lime added in! When we had our cocktail module at school, the mixologist kept telling me repeatedly that all of mine were too tart but that’s how I like them!
Limes are the best.
Yum! I think watermelon tastes great in just about any fashion. Love the color of the drink!
It was amazing how far one watermelon went.
Rum and triple sec – got to be good… I’ve only ever used my triple sec with cava/prosecco – but think this may be a very good alternative… Now, overcoming the watermelon problem…
Triple sec is good in many things. We like it in margaritas, cosmos, pancakes…
Jeez! Real men drink pink! Well, actually, they don’t care what color the drink is so long as it’s strong, tastes good, and there aren’t any umbrellas in it. And if they complain about the color, it’s simply not strong enough. Just one bartender’s opinion …
Thanks, John! At least there aren’t any little umbrellas in the house.
Great pic and it sounds delicious – Greg’s bar in full swing.
Thanks, Roger.
Sweet! Watermelons have been good this year.
We waited pretty late to get one, but it was just great.
Just whilst thinking on the amazing cocktail front… You ever had a bramble…
I don’t think I have. I just looked it up. Not a huge gin fan, but it sounds really tasty nonetheless.
Damn – wish I hadn´t given that last bit of watermelon to my chickens last night! Only one thing for it…will have to buy another one 🙂
Lucky chickens!
Yes please! I don’t care what colour you want to call it – it’s just YUMMY!
🙂 Mandy
Thanks, Mandy!
I have been loving watermelon this summer and I now see my next watermelon venture!
I think it’d be great for a party and isn’t too time consuming. Just takes some straining.
Now I just need a large verandah, a rocking chair, and a balmy evening to set me up with my watermelon cocktail….
Our hot weather has returned, we had a two day reprieve. I wish I could send you some.
The things you can do watermelon! Looks so good and very pink.
Thanks, Georgette.
If I show this to my husband he will beg me to make it tonight, he loves anything watermelon… I guess I would have to make a non-alcoholic batch for me, although this drink is appealing even loaded with the “good stuff”
You could always just spike yours.
I’m lovin’ your drink series! This would be great as a granita……though I have to make sure my kids don’t get into it!
Thanks, you could always add the alcohol after the fact.
Haha, manly red! This must cool you down in that heat. Very nice.
It doesn’t hurt!
Leave out the alcohol? are you kidding? I’m going to make this drink this weekend! Foot elevated, drink in hand!
Ha, well you do deserve it!
I’m going to make this tonight! There’s a watermelon lying in wait in the floor by the door. It’s destined for the blender!
Cool, let me know how it turns out.
Watermelon is a new love for me. I used to not like it very much, but the past few summers, I can’t seem to get enough. Yum!
Your children are growing up so fast Kristy, you need to teach them the simple joys of watermelon seed-spitting contests!
That sounds and looks so refreshingly inviting! I think watermelons are underrated!
Me too!
who cares if it’s pink? it’s got rum in it, that’s what’s important!
I like your thinking!
Ok, so my plans to stop drinking cocktails on week days are all ruined! I see I have all the ingredients and your coolers is impossible to resist… (I suppose the watermelon will not mind the company of Grand Marnier instead of Triple Sec 😉 )
Who would?! Triple sec is cheaper, but you only live once.
Greg, I have recently discovered Grand Marnier is not much more expensive in France… While Triple Sec and Cointreau are great in cocktails, I find Grand Marnier delicious on its own (with ice) too.
We love cooking with it, because you always get to finish off what’s in the glass. If only it were cheaper here.
It’s Thursday and I’m thirsty…I’ll take one bartender!
Alright, but I’m serving it with a pineapple chunk the size of your fist!
Delicious! I’ll take two.
Yeah, I’ll have a bartender too!!
Okay, I’m going to try this with my rum at home because it looks very inviting. Gotta get Triple Sec though. That will be this weekend with tons of ice because it will be hot again. Thanks for sharing the post.
~ ray ~
Cointreau would work, but triple sec is much cheaper!
I have to make this for my dad–he’s obsessed with watermelon. But, he’s definitely not offended by pink drinks. He orders cosmopolitans at dinner all the time haha.
Real men drink spiked fruit juice!
Pass one th is way please!
Hey, bartender! Let me have one of those Watermelon Coolers!
{{slurp}}
Aah . . . that’s better. 😀
Perfect resheshing summer cocktail, cant wait for watermelon season!
I will have it with the alcohol please! I have a watermelon in my garden and everything else languishing on top of my fridge, so i will go out and knock on the W/melon and see if it is ready for me!
I might grow watermelon one of these years.
One more amazing watermelon recipe to try..
Thank you Greg
You’re quite welcome!
Simply fresh and gorgeous! The triple sec add an incredible kick!! Great post!
This looks super refreshing! I love that it is made from frozen watermelon! Yummy! I will take mine with rum! 😉
this looks delicious! i love watermelon!
Still so excited you were Freshly Pressed today! Woo hoo!
Stop teasing me with those wonderful summer drinks, its still winter here, in fact we have a winter blast. Will keep all your summer drink recipes so I can catchup when summer hits here.
Wow, you mean business. Your new gravatar is making a face at me!
Summertime and the living is easy. Especially if you have one of these at the end of a long hot day.
Ha, thanks Karen!
I’m glad I didn’t miss this post because of my busy schedule today.. I LOVE IT. You know I’ve been waiting for a non-drinker recipe for myself. I’m so trying this out.. this weekend. I need a non-cocktail with the week I had LOL
Tomorrow’s Friday! We try to have some nonalcoholic drinks in our repertoire.
I love watermelon drinks in the summer!
By the way, I wanted to invite you to participate in the Seven Links Challenge (http://dragitthroughthegarden.wordpress.com/2011/08/18/seven-links-challenge/) since yours in one of the food blogs that I read the most.
Thanks, that’s so nice. We just did that: https://rufusguide.wordpress.com/2011/08/13/seven-links-challenge-and-then-some/. And because we posted way more than seven links, we’ll pass this time. I appreciate the gesture!
Do you think this would work with cantaloupes?
If it’s really fresh. You might end up ditching a lot more puree in the straining process. Maybe try a small batch first.
Did you say pink? That’s my fav color! Reading the ingredient list I can tell this is good stuff. This summer I’ve made sure there’s always watermelon in my fridge. I’ll let you know if I try this 🙂
Sounds so refreshing and the color is so pretty!
Definitely a “manly pink” as someone mentioned above. I live in France, where it seems pink is quite the fashionable colour for guys (lol). They probably call it “Salmon” but I have eyes! Great looking drink. I’d skip the alcohol in this case and enjoy the sweet, sweet melon!
This looks so cool and refreshing! Might have to have one this weekend!
Just sipped this on the patio…delicious. Summer in a glass. We didn’t add the soda water though—it was great without it as well! A pitcher of this would be great for a brunch!
Great! I bet it was wonderful without the soda water. We do like to make things fizzy!
I could sure use one of these right now. It’s been a long day and I am ready to relax. Maybe, 3 or 4 would be better!
Red or manly pink, with or without alcohol, I don’t care ;), I would so love to have a glass of this amazing drink right now! Love watermelon recipes, and this sounds refreshing!!!
Love it and I can drink it, it is a lovely drink, love the color….RaeDi
