Peach Crumble Bars courtesy of one sweet blogger

There is not any apple to be found in this recipe

The other night we had more overripe peaches than we could possibly eat sitting on the counter. So I sat down at the computer and what did I see but a post for these peach crumble bars over at Sweet Pea’s Kitchen. She has more great peach recipes than you can shake a stick at. (We’ve had luck with her recipes before, like these marmalade cookies.) We whipped the bars up less than an hour later. I even remember commenting on Sweet Pea’s site that I was off to make them. She probably thought I was just being nice, but look there’s photographic evidence. That’s about all the evidence that remains. Katherine took the leftovers to work (to avoid dessert overload in a household of two, we do that even with great desserts like this.) One of her coworkers kindly thanked her for the great apple fritter. The really amazing part? She bit her tongue and said you’re welcome.

  1. Yes, we have the same problem with desserts! These look wonderful! If I can find some decent peaches I’ll try this – we haven’t had any this year!

I just passed up a basket of very nice looking peaches at my local Food Basics. Looks like I’ll have to do a fast shop on Monday cause these look great.

PS: Houston… we HAVE peach crumble! 🙂

Hopefully there will be some left tomorrow after my nephew’s visit, but since I’m sending some home with him for his parents, that’s iffy even though there are only 2 people in the house.

I made a pan this afternoon while my mom’s health care worker was here (she’s become a friend) and she got a big piece with a glass of cold milk shortly after it came out of the oven. Two more pieces (and a copy of the recipe) went home with her cause she’s definitely making it. She mumbled ‘it’s SO good’ at least 5 times while she was enjoying the still-hot bar … I divided the pan into 16 pieces cause I forgot to read the serving size info.

The picture is stunning! I love the colors of the background and your china! I think your idea of making a peach crumble is so clever!! I had only seen apple and berries crumbles, but this is just so amazing!

  4. I’ve got a peach surplus problem, so I may well be trying this recipe today. Nice pic.

  5. Your apple fritters look amazing!
…seriously, cap taken off for biting that tongue.

  6. I loved them the first time I saw them and I still love them! Although it´s now peach season here, I´m not getting hold of enough for baking…very frustrating 😦

It looks great! No to be confused with apples…. 😉 But fruit confusion can be fun:
I once brought an apple tarte to work and one of my co-workers juste couldn’t say what fruit it was (which I couldn’t believe!) and I ended up marrying him.

You can definitely count on sweet pea for great recipes. i do that all the time too! Dump all threatening desserts to my workplace! lol.

  9. Karen says:

Making desserts for two can be difficult. I’m sure the coworkers are always happy with your extras.

Another great recipe accompanied by a well-shot photo. Thanks for passing along the recipe and, more importantly, clueing me in on Sweet Pea’s Kitchen.

  11. How on earth can anyone mistake this for apple fritters? Bravo to Katherine for keeping her cool! These peach crumble bars look amazing, there wouldn’t be any leftovers left in my house.

  12. Great post and photo! Good for Katherine for holding her tongue! I think it’s hilarious that many people make assumptions as to what ingredients are involved by the look of the food, despite the taste. I’ve had co-workers do that to food I’ve made just by smelling it.

  13. Funny the things people say. Good call, Katherine. Let them remember you fed them, not that you corrected them. You know…I was just wondering this morning as my wordpress reader ushered me to your site…who eats all this? So nice of you to share visually with us, and deliciously with others.

  14. I happen to have some overipe peaches too. I now know what I wll be doing this morning!

  15. This looks so good. I just made a peach cobbler this past week but have not posted it yet. We love fresh peaches in summer. I will definitely have to try this one, too.

  16. Holly says:

Apple fritter… Stupid people hey. Lovely looking bars. Haven’t had a peach this year I dont think…

  17. JamieAnne says:

These look great! How does a peach get confused with an apple?

  18. Judy says:

I love Sweet Pea’s site too, lots of great recipes and beautiful photos. Apple fritter? You gotta wonder if they had any taste buds at all…funny.

  19. Gosh those look wonderful.

I love working in offices where people who like to bake share their creations! 😀

You will never guess what I have been doing since yesterday! Wondering what new dessert I can make with the peaches I bought on the market. Your Crumble Bars look so wonderfully peachy I can’t understand how they could be mistaken for an apple dessert. I can feel the enticing peach aroma through the computer screen!

  22. Christina says:

These turned out great!! I am so glad that you liked them!! Makes me wish I had one right now! Apple fritters?! Ha! 😉

  23. I’ve been wanting to make a peach dessert but my kids keep eating up all the peaches before I can get to them. Mmm, this looks so good right now, Today it’s on the cooler side, plus it’s been raining all morning, it’s a perfect day to stay home and bake!

  24. Kristy says:

Yum! I just used up our peaches or this would have been great. Oh well…just means I have to get more. 🙂

  25. hehehehe apple fritter? with orange apples?
    I salute Katherine’s self control..
I have a bunch of peaches in the fridge ..what perfect timing

  26. Yum, chewy crumbly delights–right up my alley. So I had a few mason jars of Georgia whites (that’s peaches y’all) that I canned last year still on hand and this recipe idea was a perfect reason to crack open a jar. Wish mine looked as nice! I’m sure they tasted as good because they went like hot griddle cakes flying off an assembly line down at Schwebel’s; by the time I got my hands up to the platter there were only a few crumbs. Like I said, I’m sure they were good.

  27. spicegirlfla says:

I was just thinking about what to do with my freshly purchased peaches and I do believe, this will be the one. I too will be bringing these into my coworkers, just don’t like to leave too much temptation laying around!

  28. Lia says:

    These look so yummy!

  29. lisamichele says:

LOL@ the apple fritter! Your wife’s lip must have been sore! Those peach crumble bars just scream ‘Summer’. They look so amazing, definitely heading over to Sweet Pea’s for the recipe!

  30. One word: yummers!

  31. I so wish I could eat these peach bars. I feel like I’m in jail looking at all the free people.. LMAO. That’s one heck of an analogy. These look amazing though

  32. As always, delicious looking! I have to take left overs to work as well. In a household of two it can get very dangerous otherwise!

  33. TasteFood says:

Oh, these look great. I have a whole bunch of peaches I must use today, and now I know how.

  34. Kelly says:

    Gorgeous apple fritters! (you’re hilarious).

  35. Yudith says:

I have been thinking about making peach crumb bars!! They look delicious

  36. Courtney says:

Those do look amazing. I’ll definitely have to check out Sweet Pea’s Peach recipes (now try saying that 5 times fast). 🙂

  37. Whoa! Looks so perfect for summer. I MUST make these soon before peaches go out of season!

  38. bakingdevils says:

Beautiful post and the peaches look lovely – just peeping out of the bars…I will have to replicate this quickly – before the peaces disappear…

  39. Charles says:

“One of her coworkers kindly thanked her for the great apple fritter”

Lol, strange coloured apple in that case :/ Those wouldn’t last long around me. I love peaches – cooked peaches especially. Something about the fibrous texture and sweet, slightly caramelized flavour makes it hard to stop!

  40. The Swedish Chef says:

These look wonderful! I’d be a little worried about the “apples” if I thought that’s what they were… I’d assume there was something wrong with them!

  41. niasunset says:

Seems so yummy! Thank you, 🙂

  42. Mmmm. They look good, and I bet it would be easy to substitute in whatever fruit you had around.
